No not me...Riley Sue.
Tuesday I got home from work, and I greeted Jeff and Riley in the office and Jeff was telling me about their walk around the block. I looked down at her and she started rolling around rubbing her ears like she always does and I notice a dark red splotch on her tummy. Odd. I have Jeff pick her up and it had spread all the way down her legs and starting up into her chest.
I get a little panicky at that point (hey, I'm a new mom) and call the Vet's office. They tell me it's a 2 hour wait, and they close at 8. Well, I can't sit in a waiting room for 2 hours with Riley...she'd flip. So I made an appointment for Wednesday to have her looked at. In the mean time I googled rashes, and gave her about a half of a benadryl to see if that would help.
So Wednesday, I get home after leaving work around 3, I pick her up...and it has spread and it's much darker. Good thing I made the appointment. So we head off the Dr's...and get there a couple of minutes before the appointment, and we wait...and wait and wait...45 minutes later we get into the room. Riley was so good...I think by this point she didn't feel good so sitting in my lap was okay for her. She did get excited to see all the big dogs come in and she just wagged her tail.
We're in the office and the tech is doing all the necessaries, all the vitals are okay...and then the flip her over...and the girl says OH MY GOD....I start to freak out a little. By the looks of it - it didn't look like Riley was in pain....but the tech thought it looked more like bruising than a rash.
So a couple of minutes later the Dr comes in and we talk about how I came about the info, asking the typical "did you get into anything different, any new soaps, any chemicals" yadda yadda yadda. I told her no. They start running tests on her - trying to rule out tick bites, snake bites and Rocky Mountain Spider something. Then she says she is afraid Riley's platelet levels aren't where they should be and maybe she's not clotting. Oh crap. Mini flip out. They take Riley out of the room for most tests, and I just lose it. My first dog, all by myself, Jeff's not there...and I'm just freaking out.
They bring her back in as we wait for the testing and said everything looked okay, but they wanted to send the lab work off for more tests and we'd have a better idea in a couple of days. Great. Then she asks if she can shave Riley leg to get a better look at the wounds - sure why not.
I can hear the shears going from the closed door and I come back and it looks like they got a little too close and CUT HER LEG. The Dr is telling me that it was there before...yea right - it looked like it was from grooming shears. I'm getting mad at this point....she's already not feeling good - so now she's limping. So now we're looking about 3 hours of being at the hospital with no verdict.
She recommended if I could to stay home and watch her tomorrow. They gave her a vitamin K shot and antibiotics and prednizone. She slept okay through the night, but I was just so scared about the rash flaring up again. She seems kinda back to her old self - I think her leg hurts more than anything now. She's drugged up - and I think she just needs to sleep. Jeff is taking her back tomorrow for a check up....but let me tell you after $180 and still not knowing what is wrong - has me thinking I may need a new vet.
Hopefully she'll be back to her old self in no time.
