So, about 2 weeks ago, I got a bill from West County Radiology for 1 of 2 CT scans that I had back in February. I paid it - it was about $140 bucks, not really thinking anything of it for my CT scan. Until Monday, I got another bill from West County Radiology for another CT Scan - another $150 bucks. Hmmm.
But the topper was today when I got a bill from St. John's for $240 for the actual CT scan! The first 2 were just the OPINIONS of the Radiologist for looking at the results from the scan. Sweet Jesus. So, then I log online to see why I didn't get a bill for my first CT scan, and the notes said that the insurance company was not notified before scan was performed. Total cost to member - $3,100. I about shat my pants. My guess is it was an error and I haven't gotten a bill yet - and that was before the CT that I had that I got the bill for. So, we'll see what happens with that.
I'm on Jeff's insurance with a copay and then we'd pay 20% of whatever is not covered by insurance, which is okay. We used the treatment calculator to see how much my surgery will be and that's about $800-900, which isn't horrible for having an organ removed. If I was on my insurance at work, I'd have to meet a $6K deductible before they would cover anything. With just 1 scan, I'd already covered that.
I guess the most annoying part of the CT scans was the first one I wasn't supposed to have - and I have to pay for it. The nurse at my Dr's office put in the wrong information as I watched my doctor enter the order into the system. Irritating!
Gah, just think when we have kids how much that is going to cost. I'll need to start saving money now for kids in 2 years!
Tomorrow I go for my pre-surgical blood work. I'm anxious to get it all done. The good thing is I get to work from home at the end of next week so I don't fall too far behind on my training materials I'm putting together for rolling out our new software system at work. It's a lot of work and not the best time for surgery!
